Whispering versus shouting

Traditional Thai education requires choral repetition until rote memorization is accomplished. Students sit in neat rows and the teacher usually has a small bamboo switch handy to respond to any student who becomes inattentive. When students are asked to speak individually they speak in a tiny, inaudible whisper.

Compare the traditional approach with the one shown below! Our students in the video are competing in a game-show like setting to show their mastery of vocabulary — their answers are shouted, not whispered!
